Germaine Tailleferre(1892-1983) |
I first discovered the music of Germaine Tailleferre through Les Six of which she was a member. I heard Tailleferre's Concerto Grosso for 2 pianos, singers, saxophones and orchestra and was bowled over by it.
Her harmonies are extremely colourful and I love the way she shifts between chords. Her music is driven by humour and drama. Her piano music is very French and romantic, but light, with a contemporary twist.
Little of Tailleferre's work has been recorded, though there is published material of her's to enjoy.
